This brings to mind another Explanation for Beginners. I remember reading an explanation of the speed of light for beginners - from someone called Tomlinson, or maybe the main character was a Mr Tomlinson - the book may have been called something like Mr Tomlinson Goes to ... I remember him travelling on a train at the speed of light

Brilliant as always, thank you. Although not as sophisticated a comment as your fellow readers, it reminds me rather simplistically of when retirees move into an old age home. Unless a concerted effort is undertaken by the new resident to remain purpose driven and engaged with the outside world, their demise eventually ensues at rather a rapid rate.

Very interesting and enjoyable read Ian. This is a great quote,

"For as the great quantum physicist David Bohm said, ‘There are no nouns, only very slow verbs.’." and while I do understand the point and how it applies here to your post I feel the need to play the Devil's Advocate to point out that there is an exception to this, (always an exception isn't there?) and that is at the temperature of Absolute Zero even verbs are nouns.
