Very good and informational post Ian. Burnout is an especially serious issue in my business, (Hospitality/Food & Beverage/Culinary). I can't tell you how many times I've gone through this in my career and as you say it is a vicious cycle, and the crash is brutal.

Recognition is the key, (as you say "self awareness" which is the key to recognition), but unfortunately it's often difficult "to see the forest for the trees".

I will be sharing this, especially with others in my industry.

Thanks Randy. The problem with this trauma is that it usually comes on insidiously, but once it engulfs a person it's difficult to claw one's way out. Enhanced self-awareness allows one to avert the full catastrophe - prevention is better (and easier) than cure. I'm seeing more and more of this across the board and in many cases its developed into serious illness and death. The progression within a biopsychosocial space becomes pretty obvious.
