I guess it was inevitable - ever since I can remember I’ve explored, evaluated and confidently followed the path to take me to wherever it went, always tempered with a healthy dose of scepticism. And so I discovered the intriguing world of Psychoneuro-immunology or PNI - the scientific study of the influences of mind states (cognitive and emotional function) on immune function. In this way the phenomenon of consciousness evolved beyond that function described in neuroscience alone. It became rather the driving force of wellness and performance and ultimately, of leadership. Finding myself in this space already put me at odds with mainstream thinking in the conventional medical environment because the prevailing model at the core of conventional medicine is the bio-medical one. The bio-medical model essentially defines us as a collection of organized flesh with fortuitous origins and a random end which came into existence through random environmental influences selecting out genetic and associated physical traits. Consciousness in this context is merely the manifestation of the electro-chemical activity taking place in that organ situated between our ears. Bringing consciousness as an organizing influence into this neat mechanistic model threatened to overturn the apple cart in many respects.
But my journey had just begun. Next came the meander through quantum physics where once again I encountered consciousness. Here things got a whole lot weirder - human consciousness appeared to engage instantaneously with pure energy potential and bring into existence new physical entities (collapsing the wave of potential). Essentially it became apparent that we as humans are imbibed with a co-creatorship potential. Consciousness had mushroomed from a mere computer-like process reflecting the electro-chemistry of the brain to this all pervading influence which appeared to connect with matter and energy, somehow instantaneously (independent of time and space). Was this universal inter-connectedness really fortuitous or was there some intelligence behind it? We’ll deal with this subject in a post of its own.
Since this is the first post on a new platform for me, I thought that I’d end off with re-publishing two of the last posts uploaded to LinkedIn prior to the termination of my account. Enjoy, until next time.
The battle of the hemispheres
It’s all in the neuro-sciences
The left cerebral hemisphere is averse to uncertainty. It will seek data to fill in the gaps - by creating inferences and explanations to resolve uncertainty. Inferences do not have to be correct or plausible as long as they bridge gaps in information and create a cohesive narrative. The left hemisphere then maintains this at all costs. Once established the left will incorporate only ‘acceptable’ evidence and suppress all right hemisphere prompts of inconsistencies. The left feeds on a confirmation bias.
The right hemisphere is averse to inconsistencies. The right hemisphere monitors, evaluates and revises plausibility. The right tends to be more globally integrated (non-linear) and less rigid while the left is linear and more rigid.
The left is driven by fear and anger while the right derives courage from clarity and awareness. In this way an over-heated left will attempt to functionally over-power and suppress the virtues of the right. The primary modus operandi of the left is to delete and distort inconvenient information or alternatively, discredit the information and / or the bearer of the information. Unfortunately the excessive fear-anger of the left will also suppress their pre-frontal cortices resulting in some dumbing down.
Ideally we seek inputs from both hemispheres and thereby experience optimal function. This will be thwarted by the excessive ‘lefties’. And so we recognize the two warring factions: The excessive lefties or Half-Brainers and the shared hemispherers or Whole-Brainers
How to tame the Half-Brainers and emerge into the light? Work in progress!
In applying my right hemisphere feed I found myself challenging the ‘Half-Brainers’ promoting the popular Covid narrative. By default I had become the intrepid medical activist. To try and sew some common sense among the ‘disbelievers’ I published the following ‘Covid Guideline’:
